We here at The Movie Guys are always looking to promote and showcase outstanding looking upcoming films and Adam Sandler’s Netflix exclusive The Do Over certainly looks like one those!
Comedy isn’t easy and laugh out loud experiences are nowadays few and far between so whenever Sandler has a new event on the horizon we are the first to sign up for the ride.
The unfairly maligned The Ridiculous Six quickly became Netflix’s most streamed movie of all time and there’s no reason The Do Over can’t be a critical and commercial success much like Sandler’s hits Little Nicky, That’s My Boy and Jack and Jill.
Below are 5 valid reasons as to why you to should be eagerly anticipating The Do Over’s release in May.
1 – It’s directed by Steven Brill.
Director Steven Brill has given us such cinematic gems as Little Nicky, Without a Paddle, Drillbit Taylor and one of 2014’s hidden gems Walk of Shame as well as appearing as an actor in classic movies like Joe Dirt, The Mighty Ducks 3 and Going Overboard so what’s stopping The Do Over from achieving the same successes?
2 – What a cast!
Adam Sandler might be the headliner but joining him is one of 2016’s biggest star studded casts that includes David Spade, Sean Astin, Nick Swardson, Renee Taylor, Jared Sandler and Ramiro ‘Ramir’ Delgado Ruiz! Forget Captain America: Civil War or X-Men Apocalypse, The Do Over’s cast is the one to beat this year.
3 – It’s Sandler’s follow up to The Ridiculous Six.
The misunderstood comedic western masterpiece was unfairly maligned by critics upon release on Netflix late last year with some calling it “everything wrong with Hollywood for the past two decades” and “a two-hours-too-long cesspool of gross-out gags and casual bigotry” but for those that opened up their hearts to be treated to some of the funniest scenes in many moons like Terry Crews playing the piano with a particular body part or Vanilla Ice showing up hilariously as Mark Twain, The Ridiculous Six has quickly become an all-time favourite.
4 – It’s a Netflix film, everyone loves Netflix right?
Netflix is particularly awesome in Australia where their current film catalogue includes such recent and relevant films like The Descent 2, Wild Target and Chicken Run and with films like these why wouldn’t you want to continue supporting Netflix’s move into original films by spending your quality time and internet usage by partaking in the hilarities of The Do Over?
5 – It’s an Adam Sandler movie!
The genius comic continues to push boundaries and reinvent the way comedies are made! Who could forget the life affirming messages found within The Grown Up films or the insightful look at African culture in Blended and of course the history lesson that was The Ridiculous 6. As long as Sandler continues to push the genre and of course himself with his varied acting turns (he was almost unrecognisable in Pixels) audiences should be seeking out his projects above all others.
