Driving into local cinemas sometime in the near future after a recent showing at the Berlin International Film Festival, upcoming Australian action film Rough Stuff looks set to be a rip-roaring trip through the dangerous landscapes of our fair shores.
Touching on both Australia’s long time love for outback exploring with the help of our beloved trusty 4×4’s and our quest for adventure, Rough Stuff is set to be a crowd pleasing favourite with enough broad appeal to be a world-wide hit.
The Movie Guys will certainly be strapping themselves in for the ride and we hope you will be too!
For further information on Rough Stuff and to watch the film’s recently released (and extremely popular) trailer continue reading below.
Action and adventure will burst onto the screen with the new Australian feature film Rough Stuff
Rough Stuff is the action-packed story of an activist group making a dubious deal with treasure-seeking Rovers and their modified four-wheel-drives for an expedition through treacherous Australian terrain. Tensions rise and ulterior motives are revealed with exciting off-road chases, daring rescues and amazing discoveries that follow.
Rough Stuff was conceived as a back-to-basics mythic-adventure, drawing on inspirations as varied as Mad Max, The Castle and The Magnificent Seven. Part western, part bush-bashing adventure and part comedy, it appeals to a growing audience of 4WD owners and off-road adventurers while remaining an old-fashioned crowd-pleaser for the broad movie-going audience.
For his debut feature, writer-director Jonathan Adams assembles a fresh-faced cast of talented young actors including Gareth Rickards, Vincent Andriano, Sam Glissan, Jamie Kristian, Hayley Sullivan, Katie Garfield and Adam Horner, plus a cameo role by famous Australian Aboriginal actor, Ernie Dingo.
“The challenge I set myself was to create something entertaining, high-energy and fun but without pandering and losing that personal touch. I simply wanted to make a film that I would want to see. But I also happen to have varied tastes, so it’s quite a quirky film in a lot of ways, like a mash-up of an Indie ensemble comedy and an old-fashioned Hollywood western. I also wanted to make something uniquely Australian, something that takes advantage of how exotic this country really is”, said director, Jonathan Adams.
