Oppenheimer – 5 Reasons Why You Should Be Excited

Palms will be sweaty when Oppenheimer hits cinema screens in the near future

List compiled by Eddie on 23/06/2023

It’s safe to say that there aren’t many bigger or more anticipated big screen outings in 2023 than Christopher Nolan’s newest high profile epic Oppenheimer.

Whether you’re a casual cinema-goer or an out and out cinephile, the thought of a new Nolan film is always something that brings much anticipation and his newest venture looks set to be one of his biggest and most ambitious films yet, no mean feat in a career that has already changed the face of cinema forever.

Just in case you weren’t yet counting down the days until Oppenheimer hits your nearest cinema screen (or IMAX screen where this film was made to be seen), here are 5 reasons why you should be excited for what should be one of the most memorable features of the year.

See you at the cinema!

1. Christopher Nolan Doing a Biopic

Leading the troops on the set of Oppenheimer, Nolan’s long term passion project

In a career littered with instant classics, one thing that stands out most is the fact Nolan has rarely operated within the realms of the real with only his 2017 film Dunkirk a based on a true story feature. With Oppenheimer, it will mark the first time the beloved director has produced a straight up biopic and while it’s highly likely the film won’t stick to the usual rulebook, his passion to bring this tale too life should shine through regardless.

2. A Rare Cillian Murphy Lead Turn

Rarely used enough in the film landscape, it’s great to see Cillian Murphy take lead in a feature once more

It’s been a long time between drinks when it comes to seeing Cillian Murphy lead a big screen movie with early/mid 2000 efforts 28 Days Later and Sunshine still the well-liked actors most notable big screen efforts outside of hit TV show Peaky Blinders. It’s exciting to think about what the talented performer can achieve working alongside such a gifted director and talented support cast, awards may just be on the cards for Murphy come the end of the year.

3. Explosions

Oppenheimer is going to provide us with some of the most intense big screen explosive spectacle ever seen

Never one too do things the easy way, Nolan and his team have taken things to an all new practical level by recreating nuclear explosions without CGI for Oppenheimer’s bombastic moments. See this type of spectacle on the big screen will surely become a must see cinema experience.

4. The Ensemble Cast

Who’s not in the cast of Oppenheimer? Not many!

With all the hype around so many elements of Nolan’s epic, one thing that can’t be overlooked is a cast list that surely must rank as one of the most loaded in the last decade? Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek, Casey Affleck, Jack Quaid, Josh Peck and Josh Hartnett are just a few recognisable faces and names that appear throughout Oppenheimer’s runtime ensuring that audiences should be gifted with some of the most loaded performances of the year.

5. Return of An Original Big Screen Cinema Event

An adult orientated original big screen outing is exactly what cinema needs in 2023

In an age where many are concerned about the future of original content that is made for the big screen treatment, Oppenheimer will hopefully prove that there is still a willing audience out there willing to pay to get out and see worthwhile cinema content that isn’t based on a comic book, a remake or well-known properties designed purely to provide customers with sugary content with little substance. Having had long-standing success with original films, fingers are crossed that Oppenheimer strikes a chord at the box office to show Hollywood original cinema is far from dead.

  1. Oh yes!

Obviously a big Nolan fan here, but also Cillian Murphy and his ridiculously impressive skills, and how he can flip a character with just a slight change in his face and intensity continues to blow my mind.

So glad he’s leading, long overdue at this type of level – and we know both of these benefits means something very interesting indeed.

    • I really can’t wait to see Murphy shine here, it’s so good his got the chance again in a big Hollywood pic.
I think this will be a real treat on the big screen.

  2. I’m cautiously optimistic that Nolan can rebound and reign in his excesses that plagued some of his more recent movies. Also, very excited to see Cillian Murphy in a big juicy lead role.

    • Oh mate Covid has done a number on prices of these type of things hasn’t it! This one will be worth the time and effort though I think.

  3. Just booked to see Oppenheimer 1570 at IMAX in Melbourne with my son. It’s booked out most sessions but I found a couple seats in a few weeks time. My son has never been to an IMAX theatre before so he is in for an experience but it will be really hard to avoid spoilers!

    • Fantastic mate! I have my 1570 tickets for this coming Friday, Imax in Melbourne is one of only 30 cinemas in the world showing that print of the film, pretty exciting! I am hoping to avoid spoilers for a 24 hr period before seeing it. I am not sure what I am in for but I suspect Nolan has something very special in store for us all.

  5. In my humble opinion, one of the best films of the 21st century! Artistic and important. Maybe Nolan’s best and I expect to see Cillian with the Oscar.
