Dune: Part 2 – 5 Reasons Why You Should Be Excited

List compiled by Eddie on 16/02/2024

Arguably slightly slept on during its initial run in amongst the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, Dune: Part 1 was a critical and commercial hit but one suspects as audiences have caught on and the Dune brand has grown in interest and popularity that Dune: Part 2 could be an even bigger smash, arriving at the perfect moment in history where cinema and Hollywood are crying out for a cinematic messiah.

With all the key cast returning and director Denis Villeneuve once more behind the helm of the whole production, there’s no reason to doubt that if you liked Part 1, you won’t be even more satisfied by the bigger in scope and more action packed Part 2.

Everything we have seen so far showcases a stunning looking sci-fi spectacle that is crying out to be seen on the biggest screen available (here I come IMAX!) with the film potentially acting as the quintessential reminder that cinema is a part of movies and that for the right product, audiences will still support the medium that has given them so much over the history of time.

Here’s 5 reasons why you should jump on the hype train (worm?) and get seriously excited by Dune: Part 2’s imminent arrival.

See you at the movies!

1. Cinema Needs Dune: Part 2

Dune: Part 1 was a success at a critical time, Part 2 needs to be even bigger

A victim itself the the 2023 Hollywood strike that saw its late year release pushed into 2024, Dune Part 2 is coming at a time where cinema desperately needs a saviour and at the very least a reminder to why moviegoers should get out of their comfort zone to enjoy something on the big screen. An experience much like the first that is tailor made to be consumed on the biggest screen possible, one doesn’t want to heap too much pressure on Denis Villeneuve’s sequel but it needs to be big in more ways than one with a focus on box office receipts one many will be watching with a keen eye.

2. The New Cast Members

Florence Pugh adds even extra star power to the Dune cinematic landscape

Dune Part 1 already provided us with a stacked cast but Dune Part 2 is upping things even more with its new cast members that have signed on for this epic follow-up. Joining the adventure this time around is Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux and the almost unrecognisable Austin Butler as the films most talked about new addition Feyd-Rautha. All the new talent involved in Part 2 suggests things could be bigger and better than what we’ve come to expect.

3. The Action Spectacle

Expect Part 2 to ramp up proceedings in a big way

A film that did have its share of share of action but focussed more on the world and character building aspects of its narrative, the first Dune is going to look very small in comparison to Part 2 that looks set to unleash a series of stunning action spectacles on us like few films have ever done. Perfect for the big screen!

4. Hans Zimmer’s Score

Zimmer and Dune, a match made in movie heaven

Winning his long overdue second career Oscar for his unforgettable work helping craft the unique and speaker shattering sounds of the first Dune outing, I can’t wait to see what famed composer Hans Zimmer comes up with for his second go around on Arrakis. One suspects Zimmer is going to up the game even more this go around!

5. Sandworms (and sandworm popcorn buckets)

Want some sandworms? Dune Part 2 should have you covered!

Want more sandworms in your life? Of course you do! Lucky enough for all Dune Part 2 is going to include much more of Arrakis’s famed sand dwelling wormies both on screen and off! A cinematic treat we don’t often get from our Hollywood blockbusters, Dune’s little worm friends might just be the stars of the show!

We all need a little extra sandworm in our lives –

  1. I love sci-fi and Star Wars, Stargate, Alien, Foundation, For All Mankind, and others usually rank a 10/10 from me. But I’m an oddball. I didn’t like the original Dune and I’ve turned on the new one ten times to watch it since it hit Netflix but I keep turning it off. I know I’m only 90 minutes into what will be well over 5 hours of story but I just can’t get into it. Why? I can’t find anyone else that likes sci-fi that doesn’t enjoy it. But I keep getting the feeling I need to finish it.

  2. Excited as a fremen, I obviously am! There is only one fear: the script, and the absence of Eric Roth this time to transcend Herbert’s words. I’m worried that the story will be buried under a storm of action scenes.

    • It’s always tricky balancing the spectacle that will be present here with the humanity and narrative outside of that. I think the team can do it though, early rave reviews suggest we are in for something special.

  3. Definitely excited beyond belief to see this one. I loved what Denis Villeneuve did with the first film and its authentic depiction of the Middle East. Definitely one of the best sci-fi movies I’ve seen. Here’s why I loved it:
