Put simply.

If 2026 can’t ignite some fires at the global box office, it’s unlikely the cinema experience will ever be what many remember it to be or what the industry needs it to be.

With new films from the likes of Christoper Nolan, Steven Spielberg, Denis Villeneuve, Alejandro G. Iñárritu and The Russo Brothers returning to the Avengers landscape, this year is loaded with big projects from big names and surely must be getting eager viewers keen to hit up their big screen providers.

Below is a list of some of the year’s most notable offerings and while there’s sure to be a bunch of hidden gems that are unearthed as the year goes on, there’s no doubt that there’s a vast array of films of all shapes and sizes coming our way, hopefully leading to a cinematic year we won’t soon forget.

Happy reading and see you at the movies!

10. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

After briefly appearing previously, Jack O’Connell looks set to dominate in The Bone Temple

Director: Nia DaCosta (Candyman)

Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams

As Spike is inducted into Jimmy Crystal’s gang on the mainland, Dr. Kelson makes a discovery that could alter the world.

While divisive, the fun and original 28 Years Later provided a lot, including one of 2025’s most insane and memorable finales. This finale, that included a memorable cameo from Jack O’Connell, leads us to suspect that this sequel (filmed at the same time as Danny Boyle’s effort) should be a wild and energetic ride in the post apocalyptic world.

9. Project Hail Mary

Ryan Gosling giving Grizzly Adams a run for his money

Directors: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie)

Cast: Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller

An astronaut tries to save Earth while alone in outer space.

Based on one of the modern eras most well-loved books by The Martian author Andy Weir, directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller bounce back from their Solo experience with this high-profile Ryan Gosling starrer that could breakout at the box office in a major way.

Director: Boots Riley (Sorry to Bother You)

Cast: Keke Palmer, LaKeith Stanfield, Will Poulter

Follows a group of shoplifters who take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven.

It’s been sometime between drinks for director Boots Riley after making his directional mark with his fantastically bonkers and memorable Sorry to Bother You. Based off that effort alone and the stacked cast list lined up for I Love Boosters, there’s a big chance that this unique oddity could be one of the surprises of the year.

7. Digger

The team-up of Tom Cruise and director Alejandro G. Iñárritu should make for great viewing

Director: Alejandro G. Iñárritu (The Revenant)

Cast: Tom Cruise, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed

The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.

Not a whole lot is known about Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s much anticipated team-up with Hollywood legend Tom Cruise but one would suspect the two have conjured up something special for their big screen outing that’s due to hit sometime mid-year. If the stars align, Digger could be a breakout box office hit as well as a major awards player following its release.

6. Flowervale Street

Anne Hathaway and Ewen McGregor star alongside one another in Flowervale Street

Director: David Robert Mitchell (It Follows)

Cast: Anne Hathaway, Ewen McGregor

A family in the 80s start to notice bizarre happenings in their neighborhood.

Taking some time to recover from his unfortunate Andrew Garfield starring box office bomb Under the Silver Lake (a film that has a growing cult following), director David Robert Mitchell returns to the big screen with this mysterious J.J Abrams produced effort that hopefully sticks the landing.

5. The Dog Stars

Ridley Scott’s newest big-budget affair is loaded with talent and potential

Director: Ridley Scott (Gladiator)

Cast: Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin

In a post-apocalyptic world, a virus wipes out humanity. Survivors face roaming scavengers called Reapers. Protagonist Hig, a pilot, survived the flu but lost his wife.

It’s expected now that director Ridley Scott isn’t always going to deliver on the promise of many of his projects but with fingers and toes crossed his newest big-budget effort might be one of the diamonds in the rough. Lead by the increasingly impressive Jacob Elordi, The Dog Stars could be anything, including something great.

4. Disclosure Day

The first advertisement was seen in late 2025 for Spieldberg’s newest film

Director: Steven Spielberg (Jaws)

Plot unknown, a new Spielberg sci-fi experience.

Very little is known about Steven Spielberg’s mysterious new science-fiction film but it would take a fool to doubt the bespectacled master when it comes to bringing the genre to life on the big screen in a unique and memorable way. Having delivered with the likes of Close Encounters, E.T, A.I and War of the Worlds, you can count me excited for what Spielberg has in store for eager cinema fans in 2026.

Director Robert Egger’s thrives in the horror space, giving Werwulf a great chance of success

Director: Robert Eggers (The Northman)

Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Robert Pattinson

It follows Muad’dib, heir to unimaginable power, as he brings to fruition the ancient scheme to create a superbeing ruler among men, not in the heavens.

After two incredible films, there’s undeniable evidence that Denis Villeneuve’s farewell to the worlds created from author Frank Herbert is going to be an experience deserving of the biggest screen available to viewers. With a stacked returning cast list and new additions such as Robert Pattinson, Dune: Part 3 has a chance to pull a Return of the King and end the trilogy with a bang.

1. The Odyssey

As to be expected, Christopher Nolan has assembled a jam-packed ensemble to bring his IMAX epic to life

Cast: Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Mia Goth

After the Trojan War, Odysseus faces a dangerous voyage back to Ithaca, meeting creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens, and Circe along the way.

Christopher Nolan. Do you really need to know more?

Shot entirely in IMAX (the first full-length feature film to do so), Nolan’s latest large-scale epic should be a feast for the senses and the soul. With a huge chance to become a hit similar to Oppenheimer, The Odyssey might just be Nolan’s most ambitious and unique film yet.
